Department of Legal Metrology

The Kerala Legal Metrology Department is responsible for ensuring fairness and transparency in trade and commerce by regulating weights, measures, and weighing/measuring instruments used across the state. Operating under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, the department safeguards consumer rights by enforcing accuracy in measurements, preventing fraud, and maintaining standardized metrological practices.

Department of Legal Metrology

Metrology is the Science of Measurement. Department of Legal Metrology (Formerly known as Department of Weights and Measures) is empowered to certify the accuracy of weights, measures, weighing and measuring instruments used for transaction and protection to safeguard the interest of consumers. This is done by enforcement of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and rules made there under including Packaged Commodities Rules.
